THE INTERNATIONAL LION CLUB HOLDS WORLD SERVICE DAY …….With reading action programme amongst pupils.

The international Lions Club holds its World Lions Service Day on Monday, 8th October   2012 as its Lagos chapter marked the day with a reading action program among primary school pupils.  The event’ that took place at our Lady of Apostle Primary School, Birrel Steet, Yaba ,  was attended by all Lion’s club members in the District 404B under the chairmanship of  Lion Stella Agbogun.

According to one of the facilitators of the day, Lion Mrs Akinsanmi  ‘Reading is a way in which one gets information needed to gain mental strength.  It is the basis of all knowledge. Through reading, more vocabularies, more meanings of words and their usage are gained. It is a culture that must be imbibed to widen our knowledge and understanding of what happens around us.  It promotes healthy relationship amongst children. It is a way of life. Therefore the more we read, the better we become more skilful and versatile in the society. ‘

Mrs Akinsanmi therefore called on parents to play their role towards improving the reading skills of their children, according to her, this they can do by trying to read to the listening ears of their children as it was in those days.

The highlight of the event was the demonstration of reading skill by the Executive Chairman of Yaba LCDA, Hon Jide Jimoh who was the special guest of the occasion. He read to the listening ears of the pupils. A pupil of the school, Kausara Salimon also read to the listening ears of the pupil.

Books were presented to the School by the Lion Club towards improving the reading skills amongst the pupils. Hon Jide Jimoh was decorated as honorary member, Lagos Lion’s Club by the District Governor 404B, Lion Stella Agbogun.
