LAGOS STATE HOUSE COMMITTEE ON HEALTH ON INSPECTION VISIT OF HEALTH FACILITIES IN YABA LCDA.
The Lagos State House of Assembly House Committee on Health was on monitoring and inspection visit of health facilities in Yaba LCDA on Tuesday 9th October, 2012. The committee, led by its chairman, Honourable Avoseh was shown two ambulances purchased by the council for emergency situation within the community after which the team was taken round some of the Public Health Clinics in Yaba LCDA by the Executive Chairman Hon. Jide Jimoh.
The House committee chairman on Health, Honourable Avoseh, in his speech at Iwaya PHC, said he was highly impressed at the level of improvement seen in the health sector of the LCDA particularly the purchase of two emergency ambulances for the use of the community, this he said was the first of its kind in Local Governments and Council Development Areas in Lagos State.
He went further to say that the importance of establishing PHCs in all Local governments and council development areas is to reduce the pressure on the General Hospitals in the area of provision of free and qualitative health service delivery to the people. He was happy that the PHCs are having qualified medical personnel and other health service support workers.
Honourable Afose stressed that the committee was in Yaba not to witch-hunt but to appraise the level of work done by the LCDA in the area of health care service delivery to the people and to inspect the level of health facilities in place. He however observed that the number of health workers in place was too small, this he promised that the committee would work to see that more health workers of all categories were posted to Yaba whenever the exercise began. He called for more sensitisation and awareness campaign of the operation of the health centre to the people of the community.
In his response, the chairman, Yaba LCDA, Hon Jide Jimoh thanked the committee members for their visit and said the committee was in the LCDA to perform one of the oversight functions of the house apart from the other constitutional function which has to do with making of laws for the people. He promised that the administration would continue to render free and qualitative health service delivery to the people of the community.
In the entourage of the Executive Chairman were Vice chairman, Supervisor for health, the MOH and the Pharmacist, leader of the council and other legislative members and members of the management.
