The fourth edition of this year’s tree planting programme took place throughout Lagos State on Saturday 14^th July, 2012. The theme was ‘’plant a tree for a better climate’’.

Speaking at the programme organised to mark the tree planting day in Yaba LCDA, the executive chairman of Yaba LCDA, Hon AbdulRaheem Olajide Jimoh commended the initiatives of the Lagos State government aimed at making our environment habitable and safe for the people of Lagos State through the laudable programme.

He said people should cultivate the attitude of tree planting in our society. ‘When we all plant tree, we give life to the people; hence tree planting is very significant to human existence.’ he said.

According to him, availability of trees prevents havoc that may arise from storms and make our communities more pleasant to live in. ‘It decreases pollution, wild life would be conserved and our environment is beautified, he added.

He concluded by calling on all residents of Yaba to plant a tree today so that we could have a better environment to live in. Trees to be planted, according to the state government are: Ashoka (Police type), Ashoka (hands up), Ficus (yellow) and Malaina. They are chosen for site specifications.
