AN ADDRESS DELIVERED BY HON. JIDE JIMOH, EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN, YABA LOCAL COUNCIL DEVELOPMENT AREA AT THE INAUGURATION OF FREE AMBULANCE SERVICES ON THURSDAY, JULY 5, 2012.

PROTOCOLS

‘Health is a state of complete harmony of the body, mind and spirit. When one is free from physical disabilities and mental distractions, the gates of the soul open’’. ——BKS Iyengar.

Respect the sanctity of human life is sacrosanct’’. ———-Anonymous.

The two (2) great religions of Islam and Christianity both forbid the taking of human life.   ’’ You shall not kill’’ is a common refrain to both Quran and the Bible. This may be responsible to a large extent, for the vehemence with which countries have criminalised the act of killing of human beings. Different countries have different statutes as deterrence against this act. Though there has been in recent times international campaign against death penalty for murderers, it is certain that severe punishments await convicted murderers, no matter the clime.

The corollary of this is that if we value human lives this much, then, we should do all that is within us to prevent untimely deaths. Incidentally, we witness these on a daily basis either through automobile mishaps, building collapse, child birth and the likes. But, in some of those incidents, death might not have occurred if victims have had immediate access to medical facilities.

Let us look at it this way: if there is a vehicle accident and a medical team gets to the scene immediately, administer first aid treatment while moving the injured to the hospital; a woman falls into labour and is taken to hospital instantly; a child falls sick suddenly and an ambulance is made handy to convey him or her to a clinic. Those accident victims may not die, that pregnant woman will have a safe   delivery and that child may be saved.

Our government believes in the sanctity of human lives. Whatever needs to be done must be done to make the people of Yaba LCDA live a worthy life. That is why we have resolved that our health package must be a complete one. Not only have we revved up activities in our Public Health Centres (PHCs) by adequately staffing them, we now make sure that drugs are always available in them. No matter the hour of the day, services go on in these centres.

To make these services a total package; we have procured two (2) ambulances to assist transportation of those in need of them.

Our ambulance service shall not only run free of charge, they shall be available to transport pregnant women when they are due; they shall be around to take the sick to the hospital; they will in fact respond to any emergency and medical personnel will be available to administer first aid.

I therefore call on our people to avail themselves of this opportunity. Do not hesitate to call on us for the use of these ambulances. The dedicated lines are: 012951735 and 012951563. The service, once again is free and you are assured of an efficient and courteous service.

Once again, I want to assure our people that this administration will stop at nothing in ensuring a good life for them.

At this juncture, I must pay tribute to our leaders Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and our action governor, Barrister Babatunde Raji fashola (SAN) of Lagos State for this wonderful initiative of establishing ambulance points throughout the nooks and crannies of Lagos State and from whose cup of wisdom we are drinking in this regard.

We are also today giving out a number of wheelchairs to physically-challenged persons on our midst. This is to assist them in moving about and help in their going about their daily business. We had earlier distributed first aid boxes to all primary schools and other distinguished places within the LCDA. We have concluded plan to restock these boxes in other to enhance the health life of our people because we believe that ‘health is wealth’.

Once again, I want to assure our people that this administration will stop at nothing in ensuring a good life for them.

Thank you and God bless.

EKO O NI BAJE O.

You are blessed always.(YABA)
