OFFICE OF THE PUBLIC DEFENDER ON AN AWARENESS CAMPAIGN TO YABA LCDA.
May 28th, 2012 | By Akinlade Dada | Category: Lead Story, NEWSThe Executive Chairman of Yaba LCDA, Hon Abdulraheem Olajide Jimoh played host to members of the Office of the Public Defender, Ministry of Justice in the council secretariat on Friday 25th Of May, 2012 inside the Oluremi Tinubu Hall.
The purpose of the visit was to sensitise and create awareness to the members of the Public on the functions and services rendered by the organisation. The office of the Public defender was created in the year 2000 by the then Executive Governor of Lagos state, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to render free legal services to the less- privileged in the society regardless of their status, cultural or political affiliation and also to those whose fundamental human rights are being trampled upon. They also focus on social economic services like child abuse, domestic violence cases, and issues relating to compensation, for instance, where someone is being unlawfully dismissed from service. They also handle cases relating to unlawful detention and harassment of innocent citizens by law enforcement agents.
The Chairman while delivering his welcome address said the history of legal representation in Lagos State, and indeed in Nigeria, could never be complete without the Lagos State office of Public Defender occupying a note worthy space therein. In his words,’ since its inception in year 2000, the office had become a voice for the voiceless, the hope of the hopeless and a fountain for downtrodden Nigerians that are suffering from legal dehydration.’
He saluted their courage and commended them for the way they had been bringing succour to the helpless Nigerians through their professional conducts. He then promised its administration’s support for the team.

This is a welcome idea but need more awareness in the rural area. Thanks for the re-sensitization
I want to appreciate the Lagos State Government for establishing this institution. This will go a long way to help Lagosians. Please permit me to use this medium to bring to your attention the disturbance we experience from CAC (aka Atamatase) located on no 79, Isolo Road, Mushin. Since this church moved to this particular location, sleep and tranquility have been murdered. We have, like civilised citizens pleaded with them to reduce the noise from their speakers espercially during their vigil programme, but all to no avail. Kindly come to our assistance, and as you do this, may God help and bless you. Amen.

This is a good development. It will give the hopeless the opportunity to seek legal redress. A big thank you to @lagos State Govt under the leadership of Tinubu. God bless you sir.
what happens if a man is being battered by a woman? Does the law have any penalty for such women?
