The legislative chamber of Yaba LCDA was filled to capacity on Thursday 3rd November, 2011 as Party leaders of the ruling Action congress of Nigeria in Lagos Mainland, families, friends and well wishers of the newly elected councillors gathered to witness the inauguration and proclamation of the third legislative council.

The chairman in his speech thanked the party leadership for the confidence reposed in him and the vice chairman. He also commended the party faithful that worked tirelessly day and night before and during the campaign to ensure victory for ACN. He then stressed that the new regime will consolidate on the foundation laid in the last tenure with emphasis on the empowerment of the youths and aged ones, improvement on the primary schools and  health facilities so as to enhance prompt health care service delivery.

The chairman further emphasised the importance of the legislative arm as the third tier of government. Apart from councillors being the mouthpiece of their people, they are also responsible for the codification of council policies and passing of bye laws to give legal backing to council activities. He then called on the legislators to eschew bitterness and work for unity of purpose, a common goal that will enhance delivery of dividend of Democracy to the people. He solicited for a crisis free tenure.   

The highlight of the day was the  election of principal officers and the proclamation of the council. History was made when Hon. Bola John was elected as the first female Leader of the council. Other principal officers were Hon. Haruna Adeniyi(Deputy Leader), Hon. Rotimi Akeju (Majority Leader), Hon. Yaqub Adegboyega Asuramu (Chief Whip), Hon. Roland Obasa (Deputy Majority) and Hon. Sambakiu Samson (Deputy Chief Whip).

Notable leaders at the inauguration were the ACN National leader in Lagos Mainland Federal constituency, Hon Olawale Oshun, Chairman Emeritus, Otunba Oyemade, Vice Chairman Yaba LCDA, Hon. Bola Lawal Olumegbon, Alhaji Alade Grillo , Alhaji Faud Oki, Hon. Lanre Oshun and Chief Okusanya.
