The Executive Chairman Yaba LCDA Hon Abdul-Raheem Olajide Jimoh, left his executive garb in the office and showed his footballing prowess when he led the rest members of his Executive and Management team to unleash relentless terror on their opponents from the Mainland Local Government Area, in a novelty match organised to bring to a befitting end the annual BOB cup staged between wards in the Mainland and Yaba LCDA at sports complex of the University of Lagos, Akoka.
The Chairman who showed sterling qualities off and on the ball coordinated play from the left spank making occasional forays into the midfield and supplying vital crosses to keep the opposing defenders jittery and busy all through the match.
Like a dim unitive schemer, his accurate passes were timely, precise and caught the opponents napping most times. He dictated the pace with exceptional dribbles that overwhelm and took control of the mid-field from the opponents from Mainland.
Towards the close of the highly explosive encounter, Hon. Jide Jimoh realising that the crosses been sent were not effectively utilised took the initiative, pepped up the attack and converted a pass from the Supervisor for Agriculture and Social Development Alhaji Alao Megida,to beat the Mainland goalkeeper in a most clinical manner to the amazement of all.
The Chairman nicknamed ‘Zico’ during his playing days after the Brazilian legend of the 80s proved that Executive position do not erase inherent traits.
With the Mainland side unable to equalise, Yaba Jets as the team is known came triumphant to established a deserved footballing victory.
The competition ended with the lads from Ward A in Otto, Lagos Mainland Local Government beating the team from Ward C in Yaba LCDA 4-3 on penalties after a pulsating 1-1 draw.
The organisers have promised an improved competition next year.
